Schools out, the summer holidays are finally here, and it means as grandparents you’ll likely spend more time with your grandchildren whilst your own children (well, adults) balance the summer holidays with work and their limited time off.

To help keep costs down, a lot of restaurants, pubs, cafes and hotels have offers where children can eat for free during school holidays. If it’s not free, it’s heavily discounted with children’s meals costing as little as £1.

Here is a grandparent / family-friendly eating out guide that keeps tummies filled and smiles beaming this summer around the UK if you're out and about.

And don’t forget, check the terms and conditions for any age limits and timing specifics etc to make sure you get what you go for.

Supermarkets Where Grandchildren Eat Free

(or £1) Deals

Asda Café

Children can enjoy meals for just £1 throughout the year at any of the 205 Asda Cafés, with no requirement to purchase an adult meal or meet a minimum spend. An absolute win!

Hot dishes include penne pasta with meatballs and chicken nuggets, and each child also receives a complimentary piece of fruit.

Caring for younger mouths, there are also free Ella's baby food pouches available for children under 18 months.

Tesco Cafe

Kids can enjoy a free meal when an accompanying adult purchases a meal at Tesco Cafe this summer. Pick-and-mix lunch boxes are also included in the offer which runs weekdays.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s cafés offer kids meals at £1 when you purchase a hot adult’s meal. PLUS, this offer is available year-round from 11.30am – so one to keep handy for future days out.

Options include hot meals such as fish fingers or pizza, or you can go for a lunch bag containing sandwiches, fruit, a drink and snacks.

Morrisons

Children can enjoy a free meal at Morrisons cafés when an adult purchases a meal priced over £5 from the Breakfasts or Classics menus. Available for those 16 and under, the meal includes Birds Eye Chicken Dippers, Birds Eye Fish Fingers, Birds Eye Green Cuisine Veggie Fingers or Goodfella’s Mini 4 Cheese Pizza and any kids' drink.

Angus Steakhouse

Grandchildren Under 8? Result! They can eat for free every day between 12noon and 5pm, with a full-paying adult at Angus Steakhouse all year round. Options include burgers, fish and chips, and chicken schnitzel with mash and peas.

ASK Italian

For more tech-savvy grandparents out there, ASK Perks Rewards app members can benefit from kids eat free deals through 31 August. Up to two kids’ meals can be free of charge with one adult meal. Just bear in mind you’ll need to download and register to their app to do so.

Beefeater (Breakfast Only)

Beefeater offers two complimentary kids' breakfasts with the purchase of an adult breakfast. A perfect start to the day or a pre-nap meal for the younger grandchildren. This offer is available for children under 16 and features an unlimited buffet-style breakfast with both cooked and continental choices.

Bella Italia

Bella Italia’s £1 meal offer runs Monday to Thursday between 4 and 6pm only. Kids aged 2-11 can enjoy a three-course meal and a drink for just £1 when an adult purchases a main dish. So perfect for a tea-time meal before dropping them off back home after a busy day out.

Brewers Fayre

Kids eat free all summer at Brewers Fayre – but customers need to sign up here. Some Brewers Fayre’s also have a great indoor play area open Midday to 7pm daily.

Burger King

Get a free King Jr Meal with an adult burger meal when ordered via the Burger King app until 31 August – so yes, another app download for this one sadly.

Chiquito

Kids can enjoy a main, side, drink and dessert on the house until 31 August with the purchase of an adult main meal at Chiquito.

Côte

Grandchildren 12 and under can eat free at Côte this summer when adults purchase a breakfast or main course.

Harvester

Harvester is offering kids meals for £1 Monday-Fridays until 29^th August. With any adult main, kids can enjoy a main from the Smaller Bites, Bigger Appetites or Kids’ Breakfast menus for £1 - this includes unlimited salad.  

Hungry Horse

Kids eat for £1 only on Mondays at Hungry Horse restaurants with every full paying adult. For £1.50, you can opt for a larger dish such as Katsu chicken burgers or build your own tacos.

Prezzo

Popular restaurant chain Prezzo is offering a kids eat free deal when you purchase an adult main meal. Requires a sign up first with your email on their website, and the deal runs until 5 September, so will take you right up to the end of the Summer.

Sizzling pub & grill

Kids meals for just £1 from Monday to Friday when an adult main course is purchased. This offer is all year round from 3pm, however is available from Midday during school holidays.

Table Table

Table Table, another Whitbread pub, provides a similar offer as Beefeater and Brewer's Fayre pubs. With the purchase of an adult breakfast, you can receive two complimentary kids' breakfasts.

TGI Fridays

Kids eat free at TGI Fridays every day when you buy an adult main. Be prepared! You'll need to be a Stripes Rewards member (TGI's free loyalty scheme) to claim.

Toby Carvery 

Until 29th August, kids can eat for £1 Monday-Friday at Toby Carvery when adults order a main or an all-you-can-eat breakfast.

Subway

A fast food special, but it is only available until 17th August 2025, Subway's Kid's Eat Free offer includes a 4" sub, snack and drink available to claim with the purchase of any full-price footlong sub. Keep it simple with Subway when taking grandchildren – there are A LOT of options so decide for them when possible!

Yo! Sushi

Offer of a free bento box Mondays-Fridays over the summer at Yo! Sushi when adults spend £10 on their meals.

Zizzi 

Kids under 12 can eat free this summer at selected Zizzi restaurants until 5th September in England and 15th August in Scotland. The offer for a free Bambini Meal is valid with the purchase of at least one adult meal.

Garden Centres and Shops Where Grandchildren Eat Free (or £1) Deals

Dobbie's

We love Dobbie’s here at GranDays. If you’re planning on taking the grandkids, children can eat for £1 when you purchase an adult traditional or full breakfast or main course. Plus, check out their website the day before you go, as you may be able to book onto an indoor soft play for cheaper than the bigger soft plays out there!

Dunelm

Another firm favourite, Dunelm’s Pausa café offering a free kids' meal with a £4 purchase. This deal is available every day, all day. Children receive a free hot meal, along with two snacks and a drink.

Ikea

Who doesn’t love an Ikea lunch. At Ikea restaurants, children can enjoy meals starting from just 95p. PLUS, make a day of it with their indoor play area or let them explore the showroom (as my husband calls it, it’s “a free softplay with cheap snacks!”… Sorry Ikea)

Future Inns

This one is for under 5s only. Kids eat free at Future Inns in Cardiff, Plymouth and Bristol when you purchase an adult main meal.

Premier Inn

Off on an adventure?  Premier Inn offer two complimentary kids' breakfasts when an adult purchases a full breakfast or meal deal. This offer is available for children up to 16 years old.

Whitbread Inns

At Whitbread Inns, two kids under 16 can eat breakfast free with every adult breakfast purchased.
